The duo of David Adeleke aka Davido and Damini Ogulu aka Burna Boy have both lost out in all the categories they were both nominated at the Grammy Awards ceremony.

Burna Boy was in contention to win his second Grammy Award after he was nominated for the Best African Music Performance category; Best Global Music Performance category; Best Global Album Performance category and Best Melodic Rap Performance category.

Unfortunately, the megastar failed to win any of his three nominations. He lost the Best African Music category to South African born Tyla with her song Water; Best Global Music Performance to Pashto by Béla Fleck, Edgar Meyer & Zakir Hussain Featuring Rakesh Chaurasia; Best Global Album to Shakti’s The Moment, and Best Melodic Rap Performance to Lil Durk’s All My Life feat J Cole.

Similarly, Davido who got nominated for the first time in three categories, could not clinch any award.

He was nominated in the Best Global Music Performance category; Best Global Music Album category and Best African Music Performance category.

In same vein, none of the four other Nigerian artistes nominated Olamide Adedeji, Oyinkansola Sarah Aderibigbe aka Arya Starr and Ahmed Ololade aka Asake won an award at the ceremony.

Before the ceremony, Davido had expressed optimism about winning his first Grammy.

He said he would go into wild celebration if he clinches the award for the Best African Music Performance category, adding that an African music category at the premier global music award was long overdue.

“I feel good being a nominee for the first time and getting three nominations. But the Best African Music Performance category feels long overdue for African music to be celebrated.

“I’m talking about generations way before mine, Fela Kuti, King Sunny Ade… Sunny Ade has been nominated, I believe, but now there is an African category.”

If there was an African category years ago, a lot of people would have had the opportunity to be recognised by the Grammy. Finally, at least it is happening now,” Davido had said.
