A 30-year-old motorcyclist and father of four has been taken into custody for allegedly raping his 17-year-old sister-in-law in a bush in Akure, Ondo State.

The incident occurred in August 2024, at night, in the Onigaari area of Irese Road. According to the police, the suspect has confessed to the crime. He claimed that the victim had asked him to take her to her boyfriend’s house, but instead, he stopped near a bush and sexually assaulted her.

“I promised to give her money, which I did not. She then reported me to her mother, which led to my arrest.”

When contacted, the police spokesperson confirmed that the suspect has been charged in court and has been remanded in Olokuta Prison pending further legal proceedings related to the alleged rape.

The police prosecutor stated that the defendant committed the offense in August 2024, during the night in the Onigaari area of Irese Road, Akure. He further explained that the defendant unlawfully engaged in sexual intercourse with the 17-year-old girl.

The charges against the defendant are in violation of Sections 357 and 358 of the Criminal Code Law of Ondo State, 2006. The police prosecutor requested that the court remand the defendant in prison custody while awaiting advice from the Directorate of Public Prosecutions (DPP).

Following the prosecutor’s request, the presiding Chief Magistrate ordered the defendant’s remand in Olokuta Prison and directed that the case file be forwarded to the DPP for further guidance. The case has been adjourned until October 31 for review.
