President Bola Tinubu announced that his administration is dedicated to providing police personnel with the essential tools and training needed for effective duty performance.
Speaking through Vice-President Kashim Shettima at the passing out parade of 478 Regular Cadets at the Nigeria Police Academy in Wudil, Kano, on Saturday, September 7, Tinubu highlighted the government’s focus on enhancing police resources and training.
He stressed that a well-equipped and trained police force is crucial for national security. Tinubu detailed the administration’s efforts, including the acquisition of new vehicles, communication technology, and forensic tools, aimed at improving crime detection and protection capabilities.
“No police force can perform optimally without ensuring the will power of its personnel. We recognise the essential role a motivated workforce plays in safeguarding,” he said.
“Our government is working tirelessly to improve the quality of lives for all personnel and their families. A satisfied and well cared for police officer is essential to ensuring safety and security of our people.
“We have also embarked on a nationwide recruitment drive to address the long-standing issues of understaffing within the police force.
”These initiatives will engage new energy into the force, reduce overworking and provide more opportunities for all Nigerians to serve their country.”
He praised Inspector-General of Police Kayode Egbetokun and the entire staff of the Nigeria Police Academy for their professionalism, dedication, and passion.
The President urged the 478 graduates to avoid corruption, abuse of power, and misconduct, encouraging them to be exemplary ambassadors of the force and to diligently protect the lives and property of citizens.
“Your role goes beyond enforcing laws, it is about serving with compassion, fairness and respect for human lives,” he said.
He also encouraged them to maintain the highest standards of integrity and professionalism in all situations they encounter.
“Your success will depend largely on your relationship with the community you serve, be visible, approachable and responsive to their needs,” President Tinubu added.
“Let your action bring hope to the communities you serve and reinforce the values that the Nigeria Police Force stands for.”
Earlier, AIG Sadiq Abubakar, the academy’s commandant, reaffirmed the institution’s commitment to producing exemplary officers who are well-prepared with the knowledge and skills necessary to address the challenges of policing.
“Mr President, the academy is proud to present to you 478 Regular Cadets Graduands, who have successfully completed both their rigorous academic programmes in various disciplines and police professional training,” he said.
