Troops deliver 9 abducted passengers from kidnappers in Kaduna

The defence headquarters (DHQ) says troops of operation safe haven have rescued nine passengers abducted in Kaduna state.

Benard Onyeuko, defence headquarters (DHQ) spokesman, while confirming this in a statement on Tuesday, July 12, said troops responded to a distress call of an attack on a bus in Dogon Filli village, Jema’a local government area of Kaduna state on July 9, and rescued the nine passengers who were held hostage.

He said in another operation, troops raided Mailafia, Nisama, Dogon Filli and Gidan Waya regions, also in Jema’a local government area, during which two persons were arrested over their involvement in robbery.

According to the spokesperson, the robbers were identified as George Yakubu, and George Joseph.

“Items recovered from the suspects include three fabricated AK-47 rifles, a knife, a cutting hoe, a cutter and spanner, amongst others,” Onyeuko said.

In yet another series of operations on July 7 and 8 in Plateau state, troops arrested two persons identified as Abdulrazaq Umar, and Idris Abdullahi for kidnapping, The Cable reports.

They were said to have been arrested at Beco junction in Heipang district, Barkin Ladi local government area of Plateau state.

“The perpetrators confessed to have carried out several kidnapping activities within Plateau and Bauchi states, including the murder of Alhaji Saleh Abdulhamid (Shaba) at EX land village on Jun 22,” Onyeuko said.

“The arrested persons further revealed one Mallam Buhari Umar as the leader of the gang.

“However, while enroute the criminals hideout, some of the kidnappers attempted to escape, and were neutralised,” he added.
